Why we love Wychwood
Wychwood sits just north of St. Clair West, close to our office on Oakwood. The heart of the neighbourhood is Artscape Wychwood Barns, a restored streetcar repair barn that is now home to artists, community programs and a year-round farmers' market. Wychwood Park, one of the city's most unique historic enclaves, is right next door.
Where to eat and what to do
- Artscape Wychwood Barns. Visit the farmers' market, the greenhouse and the park around it.
- NODO Hillcrest. Great Italian on St. Clair West.
- Booyah and Dutch Dreams. Two ice cream stops a few doors apart on Vaughan Road, just east along St. Clair.
- Albert's Real Jamaican Foods. Go for the stew beef. Some of the best Jamaican food in the city.
- Gerry's. Go for the jerk pork, a St. Clair West favourite for decades.
The homes
Wychwood is mostly detached and semi-detached brick houses from the early 1900s on tree-lined side streets, with some low-rise apartments along St. Clair. Many homes have the space for a basement rental unit, and the area's mix of character and convenience keeps demand steady.
